Bodegas Castro Martin

“A2O” Albariño 2013 Rias Baixas

Albariño is one of the classic grapes of Spain.  What differentiates this one from the one we featured a few months ago are a few factors.  The body, lushness, acidity & aromatics are all pumped up without being overweight or overbearing.  The grapes are hand harvested & hand sorted before being gently pressed & left to rest on its lees in stainless steel tanks.  The lees aging gives a creamy texture & the tanks let the natural acidity highlight itself.

Pairings:

The classic pairing would be the freshest shellfish simply steamed or grilled.  The elevated acidity in the wine acts as the spritz of lemon traditionally accompanying fresh fish.

Chateau La Favière

2009 Bordeaux Supérieur

Our Jean Phillippe Bourgeois has brought many fantastic quality wines to us over the years. This gorgeous Bordeaux rouge continues that streak in terms of both quality & value.  This wine is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  The 50 year old vines are grown on sandy & gravelly soils which are perfect for these varietals.  There is a ripeness of fruit but that never overwhelms the spice, tobacco & earthy flavors.

PAIRINGS:

This could easily be paired with a heavily marbled steak or even a simple platter of charcuterie, vegetables & cheese.
